Our Range of Technical Seed Formats for Your Cultivation
In addition to standard seed, we offer various processed seed formats designed to support easier sowing and propagation, as well as to improve and standardise germination.
Standard Seed
Our seed is cleaned and thoroughly tested. If necessary, treatments such as hot water baths or cold treatment are applied to consistently ensure high quality. No pesticides are used at any stage of the process. To control seed-borne pathogens such as fungi and bacteria, hot water treatment has proven effective, where the pathogens are eliminated or rendered harmless. After treatment, seed health as well as germination rate and seedling vigour are re-tested to verify the success of the process.
Our precision seed meets even higher standards for germination and seedling vigour than standard seed. Minimum germination rates are defined specifically for each crop type. You can find the relevant information for each variety in our online shop.
Please note: Precision seed is not available in portion-sized packets.

Calibrated Seed
For more precise single-seed sowing, the seed is sorted into different size grades: S (Small), M (Medium), and Large (L). You can find the specific size ranges in millimetres in the individual product descriptions in our online shop.

Primed Seed
Priming is a valuable technique used to activate the germination process before sowing, enabling faster and more uniform emergence in the field. Priming is also partly used in the production of pelleted seed (see below). Bingenheimer Saatgut AG works with specialised partners for priming and pelleting, which are fully certified according to EU organic regulations and have many years of experience in seed processing.
The seed is coated with a clay-based material, giving each unit a uniform shape and size. This makes the seed especially suitable for single seed sowing. The coating is entirely free from pesticides and complies fully with the EU Organic Regulation (EU) 2018/848. In addition to single-seed pellets, which contain one seed per pellet, multi-pellets are also available. These contain multiple seeds in each pellet and are ideal for crops where cluster sowing (e.g. rocket/arugula) is preferred.
In coated seed, each seed is covered with a light-coloured mineral layer, making it more visible against the soil. This improves the detectability of the seed in the field and helps with checking sowing depth after planting. Additional benefits include a smoother seed surface and a significant reduction in dust particles. Both features improve flowability and allow for easier single seed sowing. All components of the coating material are approved for use in organic farming.

Seed Strips / Seed Plates
For professional leek propagation, we offer seed plates. The seeds are embedded at 2 x 2 cm intervals between two layers of specialised paper. Euro boxes (60 x 40 cm) can be lined with two plates per box. Each plate contains 280 seeds, meaning that one box, when sown as described, holds a total of 560 seeds.
Currently, the plates are sold as strips containing 25 individually detachable plates.
For efficient and successful potted herb production, we offer seed discs. The seeds are embedded at defined intervals between two layers of specialised paper – with spacing tailored to the specific growth needs of each herb species. Each disc has a diameter of 10 cm and is suitable for use in 11 cm or 12 cm pots.
